Why The Vulcans Are The Way They Are

Vulcan Basic History

The consequences of Vulcan actions have, in the long run, affected millions of planets and countless trillions of people. It should be noted therefore, that the founding of the Federation would not have occurred had it not been for the Vulcans. There is ore to be heard, however, than appears in Star Trek: First Contact.
About the Time that humans began to walk upright, the Vulcans were waging savage wars across their planet for precious water (the planet Vulcan is almost entirely desert). These wars nearly destroyed the Vulcan people, similar to the Cold War of the late Twentieth Century on the planet Earth. As the fighting reached a climax, a philosopher named Surak emerged, calling for the taming of passions and emotions, and teaching the use of pure logic.
This saved them. From then on, the teachings of Surak were practiced by almost all Vulcans. The next most important thing is that those who did not follow the teachings of Surak were so disgusted with their logical brethren that about the time of the pyramids of our planet, these Vulcans left the planet and forged out on their own. These renegades soon found a planet, Romulus, as they are called by men of Earth. Romulans: they have evolved to the needs of their own planet and during the time of the federation, they are one of the great powers in the galaxy as it is known.
The next, and possibly greatest, event in the history of the Vulcans involves a survey ship exploring the Solar System. On a day some time after Earth’s Third World War, the famous Zephram Cochran (spelling unknown … to me…) made a warp voyage and a Vulcan survey ship discovered it and met humans.

Everybody knows that.

But what is less known is the aftermath. Earth, with the aid of the Vulcan Society, thrived from struggling poverty to the greatest power in the known galaxy. This alliance of Vulcan and Human and others would go on to found the Federation
